Settings and notifications

Where Settings is, what each row does, moving between houses, notifications on each kind of phone, and leaving a house.

Last updated October 13, 2026

Settings is behind the person at the top right of the screen. Tap it to open Settings.

  • House settings opens the house’s own settings. The person passing things on and helpers have it. See House settings.
  • Set up this phone walks you through getting the iPhone app or adding Save Me That to your home screen, and turning on notifications. It is there in a phone’s browser.
  • Set up another house starts a new house of your own.
  • Join another house is for a family link or invitation from someone else.
  • How Save Me That works shows the short guide again.
  • How we keep it fair explains how the app chooses when two people want the same thing.
  • Help opens these pages.

Tap the house’s name at the top of the screen to move to another house. On a very narrow phone it is Switch house in Settings instead.

Where this phone can have them, Settings has a Notifications switch: turn it on to hear on this phone. The switch for emails, Email me about new things and reminders, gets them by email too.

What you hear depends on how you’re in the house:

  • The person passing things on hears at 9 in the morning when things are ready to decide, a short note when someone has joined or the family asked for things, and two days before the family link stops working.
  • A helper hears what the family hears, like new things to look at, and what the person passing things on hears, like things ready to decide.
  • The family hears when new things are added, at 9 in the morning when things they haven’t answered close soon, when something is saved for them, and what became of the things they asked for.

Emails about the house wait for the morning: between 9 at night and 8 in the morning we hold them. Codes to sign in and invitations go out right away.

If they still don’t arrive, see Notifications aren’t arriving.

In Settings, tap Leave this house. Anything already saved for you stays yours.

The person passing things on can’t leave. They can tap Archive this house to fold it away.
